Human Services Scholarships

Gerald and Marianne Corey Scholarship (Application Information)

Amount: $150 (may vary with funding)

Established by: This scholarship was established by Gerald and Marianne Corey to recognize scholastic promise and financial need. The Human Services faculty determines the recipient.

Open to: This scholarship is open to juniors in the Human Services Program.

Criteria: Scholastic promise ♦ financial need

Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application form, answering all 7 questions, and sign the certification; 2) Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), or have one on file, for establishing financial need; and 3) Submit the application to the Human Services Department, EC-405, (657) 278-8444.

Application Deadline: March 7

Dr. Sandra Russell Group Leadership Award

Amount: $100 (may vary with funding)

Established by: This memorial scholarship is sponsored by Dr. J. Michael Russell Professor Emeritus. Dr. Sandra Russell contributed to the training of group leaders from 1983 to 1993 and this scholarship was created in memory of what she inspired.

Open to: This scholarship is open to current students who have been or wish to be group leaders for any of the Human Services 300 Character and Conflict classes.

Criteria: CSUF GPA ♦ Financial need ♦ Career goals ♦ Campus/community activities

Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application form, answering all 7 questions, and sign the certification; 2) Include a statement which addresses: a) your financial need, b) CSUF GPA, c) Career interests/goals, d) Current campus or community activities related to human services, e) An assessment of your experience as a group leader; and 3) Submit application packet to Dr. J. Michael Russell in EC 405.

Human Services Department Titan Shops Scholarship

Amount: $500 (2 awards)

Established by: This scholarship was established to recognize and honor students who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance and dedication to the field of human services.

Open to: This scholarship is open to graduating seniors in the Human Services major who are pursuing a graduate degree as well as to students continuing their undergraduate degree in Human Services.

Criteria: Scholastic Achievement ♦ Professional Promise ♦ Community Service ♦ Financial Need

 Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application form, answering all 7 questions, and sign the certification; 2) Attach your typed resume; 3) Provide one letter of recommendation from CSUF faculty; and 4) Submit application materials to EC-405.

Application Deadline: March 14

Beverly and Arnold Miller University Scholarship in Gerontology

Amount: This scholarship will be awarded to several top students, with awards ranging from $750-$2,000 (depending on enrollment status and available funds)

Established by: This scholarship is an endowed program established by Beverly and Arnold Miller to provide support to students who are pursuing careers in Gerontology. Awards are given annually with the opportunity to be renewed with demonstrated recipient accomplishments. Finalists may be asked to participate in an interview.

Open to: This scholarship is open to students studying in the field of aging and related disciplines, learning about all aspects of aging, and who are pursuing careers to work with, for, and on behalf of older adults. Eligibility is open to students studying within disciplines supporting such programs within College of Humanities and Social Science and the College of Health and Human Development.

Criteria: Academic Achievement ♦ Professional Promise ♦ Demonstrated interest in a career in adult health/wellness or gerontology.

Application Procedure: 1) Complete the SA application form, answer all 7 questions, and sign the certification; 2) Provide a copy of your academic transcript with your gerontology course numbers and grades received highlighted, a TDA can be obtained from Titan Online; 3) Prepare a typed essay of approximately 250 words describing interest and potential for a career in Gerontology; 4) Obtain two letters of recommendation (at least one letter from a CSUF faculty member); and 5) Submit application materials to gerontology@fullerton.edu. Recommendation letters should be separately by your letter writers.
