Applying to the MPH Program

HOW DO I APPLY?

Our MPH Program is a 21-month program, that starts in the Fall; we do not offer Spring addmissions.  Application are submitted through Cal State Apply and will open August 2026 for the upcoming cycle. To complete the application, you will, at minimum, need to: request official transcripts from all postsecondary educational institutions (e.g., four-year university, community college) and secure two recommenders (at least one must be academic). Additional requirements are listed below.

INFORMATION SESSION

If you are interested in learning more about our MPH program, we will be holding an information session on Zoom later this year. Please check back in late Summer/early Fall for when that session will be held.

APPLICATION DEADLINES FOR FALL 2027 ADMISSION

  • January 15, 2027 – Priority Application Deadline. Completed applications received by this deadline will receive full consideration for early admission.
  • March 1, 2027 – Final Application Deadline. This is the final application deadline to be considered for Fall 2027 admission. All application materials must be received before this deadline.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS AND OTHER INFORMATION

Applications to our MPH program require all of the following components. Please note applications are not considered complete until all documents have been received. Decisions on your acceptance into our program will be impacted by the timeliness of receipt of all documents.

  • Official transcripts from all postsecondary educational institutions attended. These should be sent directly to the  CSUF Office of Admissions .
  • Two letters of recommendation. At least one letter must come from an academic source (e.g., professor) who can attest to your academic accomplishments and potential.
  • Statement of purpose. In 500 words or less, describe your path to public health and how CSUF’s MPH program relates to your professional goals. Please include your relevant personal and professional experiences and discuss how they relate to your interest in pursuing public health at CSUF.
  • Current resume or curriculum vitae (CV). Please include publications and conference presentations (if any).
  • Completion of 3 units of a statistics or comparable quantitative science course with a grade B or better. Other appropriate courses include epidemiology, research methods, calculus, etc.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7. Please note that space is limited. Most accepted students had higher GPAs and those with lower GPAs were able to demonstrate their potential to achieve excellence in an academic setting in other ways.
  • Paid or volunteer experience in public health, health education or related health area. Applicants, whether from public health disciplines or other fields, should demonstrate the relevance and value of their work, experiences, and educational backgrounds to their pursuit of an MPH degree.
  • Interview, upon request of the Graduate Admissions Committee.

Additional Notes

  • The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is not required for the Fall 2027 admission cycle.
  • The use of generative AI or other AI tools to generate text or draft content is not permitted and may result in disqualification of your application. All submitted application materials, including but not limited to your statement of purpose, resume/CV, and responses to supplemental questions should be the original work of the applicant.

International Students

Our program encourages international students to apply to join our diverse faculty and student body. However, please note that MPH programs such as ours are not currently considered STEM programs by federal immigration authorities.
