This award was established to honor the many contributions of Jeff Fortuna, an exemplary and beloved lecturer in the Department of Public Health who dedicated his career to the prevention and treatment of substance use.
The funds are used to recognize a lecturer faculty member who demonstrates excellence in teaching, student engagement, research, and service to the community.
Jeff Fortuna retired from CSUF in late 2013, after completed 41 years in teaching with 28 of those years at CSUF. He taught just over 400 sections during his career at CSUF, with at least 16,000 students in his classes. On evaluations, students described him as enthusiastic, dedicated, engaging, and funny. In addition to being admired by his students, he inspired his fellow faculty through his teaching, research, and publications, which focused on substance use. This fund will help support scholarships and specialized co-curricular activities for students focused on substance use and public health, as well as the outstanding lecturers who are dedicated to teaching them.
