The Department of Social Work offers a two-year MSW program and a three-year MSW flex program.
Two-Year MSW Program
- Administered by: Department of Social Work
- Schedule: Weekday classes
Three-Year MSW Flex Program
- Administered by: Extension and International Programs (formerly University Extended Education)
- Schedule: Weekday evening classes

- Admission Term
- Students are admitted to the MSW programs during the Fall semester only .
- The admission cycle for Fall 2026 will begin on October 1, 2025.

Academic Requirement
- Applicants with a bachelor’s degree from the University of California or California State University systems automatically meet this requirement.
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university, or foreign equivalent, with a minimum of 18 units of liberal arts/social science coursework
- Minimum GPA: 3.0 for the last 60 semester units or 90 quarter units
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE): Optional

- Three (3) Letters of Recommendation
- Relevant Experience: Paid, volunteer, or internship experience in social work
- Personal Statement
- Interview conducted by the admissions committee
