Student Life
Research
At CSUF, MSW students are prepared to become critical thinkers, ethical practitioners, and effective change-makers in their communities through rigorous, research-informed learning experiences. In the last year of the program, students design and carry out an independent capstone research project under the close guidance of faculty mentors. Each project explores a meaningful topic in social work practice and policy, grounded in scholarly inquiry and real-world relevance.
These capstone projects reflect students’ deep commitment to evidence-based practice and social justice, and provide a platform to develop research skills that will support their future professional careers. Students have the opportunity to present their findings in the classroom, at the annual College of Health and Human Development (CHHD) Research Day, and at national social work conferences.
Hooding Ceremony and Commencement
The CSUF MSW program proudly celebrates the accomplishments of our students. Each May, eligible graduates are honored at two special events: the Department’s Hooding Ceremony and the College Commencement Ceremony. Detailed information about both events will be shared with students in the middle of the spring semester.
