Focus Area Overview

The Exercise Physiology focus area is intended for students who seek advanced knowledge related to understanding the physiological impact of exercise on health, fitness, and performance, and the role of the environment as well as nutritional strategies to optimize performance.

This area is suited to students interested in Master level terminal degrees as well as students seeking to continue their studies by pursuing PhD, MD, or careers in the allied-health fields.

  • Two 500-level advanced courses, including:
    • KNES 551 - Advanced Study in Physiology of Exercise
    • KNES 561 - Advanced Study in Biomechanics

Jason Ng, Ph.D.

Dr. Ng earned his B.S. and M.S. in Kinesiology from California State University, Fullerton.  He pursued a Ph.D. at the University of Alabama, focusing on exercise, heat stress, and hydration. Dr. Ng shares:

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to teach courses in exercise physiology, testing, and prescription, as well as to develop opportunities for our students to gain professional experience.  I am also an active member of the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Strength and Conditioning Association, holding credentials as a Certified Exercise Physiologist and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. My mission is to continue developing myself in ways that allow me to help students cultivate their passion for exercise and empower them to use it to positively impact others—just as my mentors did for me.”
