Students Graduated Spring 2025
Sonya Garcia:
“Luckily for me, I was entering into the Human Services Department. Their mission: “Through the application of theory, research, and self-reflection, the Human Services Department prepares students to serve diverse individuals, families and communities.” What I found was exactly what you'd hope to find in a department that teaches about the importance of serving the community- professors who really cared about their students. I also found fellow students, who really cared about each other. I quickly felt understood and accepted in a way I had never felt before in a college experience…. This department helped me achieve one of the greatest dreams of my life—earning my bachelor’s degree. The teachers and fellow students here taught me the value of compassion, self-respect, and the power we each have to create meaningful change in the world.”
Gilberto Jesus Salas:
“We delve into the complexities of human needs, the systems that uplift and those that fail, the stories that break your heart and then mend it. We've learned to listen, to empathize, to advocate. We've learned that 'human' isn't just a noun; it's a verb. It's about action, about service, about making a difference. And that's the unique value of a Human Services degree. We don't just study theories; we apply them to real lives. We see the potential in every individual, the strength in every community. We're the bridge-builders, the change-makers, the ones who believe that everyone deserves a chance.
Hemos elegido un camino que no siempre es glamoroso ni fácil. Nos adentramos en las complejidades de las necesidades humanas, los sistemas que nos elevan y los que fallan, las historias que te rompen el corazón y luego lo recomponen. Hemos aprendido a escuchar, a empatizar, a defender.
Katelene Songco:
“Human service professionals like us are the ones who hold our communities together, end generational cycles, and, most importantly, help those in need.
We have all faced many hardships, but no matter our backgrounds, we all share something in common: we all have a deep passion for helping others and our commitment to making the world a somewhat better place. “

Throughout this program, I’ve learned that being in Human Services is more than just a profession—it’s a calling. This degree doesn’t just equip us with the knowledge to help others; it prepares us to listen, to advocate, and to be a voice for those who often go unheard. Each of us, through our own unique experiences, is ready to make an impact. Whether it’s helping a family in crisis, supporting those facing mental health challenges, or being a light in someone’s darkest hour, we are ready to serve with compassion and integrity.
Revel Anderson:
"As a Human Services major, I’ve come to realize something powerful—our degree is more than just academic. It’s a calling. It’s about empathy in action. We learn how to serve, how to listen, how to lead with heart. In every class, we didn’t just study systems—we studied people. Their struggles, their strength, their stories. And in doing so, we found our own. Being a Human Services major isn’t just what we do—it’s who we are. And the world needs us now more than ever."
