Transportation is one of the most common needs expressed by individuals and families. Senior transportation programs make it possible for individuals who do not drive or whose physical condition prohibits them from using public transportation to obtain rides for essential trips, such as medical appointments, business errands, shopping and senior activities. Door-to-door transportation is available in many places.

LADOT CITYRIDE PROGRAM

Cityride is a transportation program offered by LADOT (Los Angeles Department of Transportation) for seniors age 65 or older and qualified disabled person living in the city of Los Angeles and select areas of Los Angeles County.  The program offers reduced costs for the purchase of permitted taxi rides or Cityride Dial-A-Ride services.  Once registered, participants are eligible to receive $42 in fare value each quarter by paying $21 or $9 for low-income participants.  The fare value may be used for City of LA permitted taxi or Cityride Dial-A-Ride trips.

MISSION VIEJO SENIOR DIAL-A-TAXI PROGRAM provided by the City of Mission Viejo

The Senior Dial-A-Taxi Program is a city-sponsored and city funded program designed to provide door-to-door taxi service to eligible Mission Viejo residents. The program operates seven (7) days a week, twenty four (24 hours a day, including holidays. Service can be scheduled one (1) hour ahead of time, or weeks or months in advance. There are no restrictions on the number of trips allowed per month.  Participants must apply for the service, verify eligibility and be issued a City photo ID card.  Residents who qualify maybe 80 +; or 65 years & disabled, or 60 years of age with a revoked license or unable to drive due to impairment.  ACCESS customers are NOT eligible.  Transportation for regular chemotherapy, cancer treatments or kidney dialysis therapy is NOT PERMITTED and will be referred to other medically-based transportation services.  The fee is $5 one way, or $10 round trip, for up to 3 passengers in the same cab.  The program’s service area has been expanded to include:  Mission Viejo, Laguna Hills, South Coast Orthopedic Specialists, Irvine Transportation Center Metro Link Train Station Laguna Niguel, Age Well Adult Day Health Care, Freedom Village Retirement Center, and Lake Forest Nursing Center.

SAN CLEMENTE, CITY OF

Provides free Group transportation, for  San Clemente seniors age 60+, to and back from the Senior Center, five times a week (M-F) for congregate meals (lunch).   Grocery Shopper Shuttles are also available, free of charge, three days a week (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday) for seniors to shop at select shopping centers in the City (i.e. Albertsons, Ralphs, Wal-Mart, Lowes, etc.).  Area served includes Aliso Viejo, Dana Point, Irvine, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Woods, Lake Forest, Mission Viejo, Newport Beach, San Clemente, and San Juan Capistrano.  The contractor will allow demand to dictate where the seniors are transported in order to achieve the best use of the available service hours.   There is no holiday service.  Shopping trips are limited to three (3) hours of total time to and back from the grocery store.  Non-Emergency Medical Transportation for the City of San Clemente is provided through the Age Well Senior Transportation Services.

Costa Mesa

 

COSTA MESA SENIOR CENTER

The City of Costa Mesa provides free transportation for Costa Mesa seniors to go to the Senior Center for activities or for congregate meals five days (M-F) a week.  It also provides free, curb-to-curb transportation services for residents who need to go shopping and banking within the city limits of Costa Mesa. CITY OF IRVINE Tailored Residential Irvine ParaTransit Service (TRIPS)

This is City of Irvine’s affordable, door-to-door, wheelchair accessible transportation program available to Irvine seniors age 65+ or disabled Irvine residents age 18+.  Pre-Registration and Eligibility Determination Required.The program currently has a registration processing period of up to 2 weeks for services that include: medical appointments, work, school, social, etc. Call for the availability for grocery shopping and senior center Shuttle Services.  Medical appointments may be made for anywhere in Orange County.  Shopping trips are limited to be within the City limits of Irvine. Transportation to work and school may be arranged to and back from the cities of North Aliso Viejo, Costa Mesa, Laguna Woods, West Lake Forest, North Newport Beach, North Laguna Woods, East Santa Ana, and Tustin. Passengers in need of special assistance are allowed to bring a personal care assistant at no extra cost. Vehicles are wheelchair accessible, and both door-to-door and curb-to-curb transportation are provided.  The cost of the program is $25 Initial Registration Fee to begin enrollment, plus $20 Annual Renewal Fee due on the anniversary date.  Ride Tickets are presently $30 each to be punched for ride payments.  The prevailing fare is $1.90 per one-way ride within Irvine, $3.80 to $7.60 one-way for going to neighboring cities such as San Juan Capistrano, Rancho Santa Margarita, Buena Park, Fullerton, and Anaheim.

Rides are available Monday through Friday from 7:00AM to 6:00PM. CITY OF MISSION VIEJO SENIOR DIAL-A-TAXI PROGRAM

The Senior Dial-A-Taxi Program is a city-sponsored and city funded program designed to provide door-to-door taxi service to eligible Mission Viejo residents. The program operates seven (7) days a week, twenty four (24 hours a day, including holidays. Service can be scheduled one (1) hour ahead of time, or weeks or months in advance. There are no restrictions on the number of trips allowed per month.  Participants must apply for the service, verify eligibility and be issued a City photo ID card.  Residents who qualify maybe 80 +; or 65 years & disabled, or 60 years of age with a revoked license or unable to drive due to impairment.  ACCESS customers are NOT eligible.  Transportation for regular chemotherapy, cancer treatments or kidney dialysis therapy is NOT PERMITTED and will be referred to other medically-based transportation services.  The fee is $5 one way, or $10 round trip, for up to 3 passengers in the same cab.  The program’s service area has been expanded to include:  Mission Viejo, Laguna Hills, South Coast Orthopedic Specialists, Irvine Transportation Center Metro Link Train Station Laguna Niguel, Age Well Adult Day Health Care, Freedom Village Retirement Center, and Lake Forest Nursing Center.

VNCOC offers 5 types of local transportation:  (1) SNEMT-Senior Non-Emergency Medical Transportation; (2) Westminster On Wheels (WOW) program with two components:  Silver Shuttle is a circular transportation program that travels to various locations throughout the city; (3) Nutrition Van Program: for seniors participating in the Senior Center Nutrition Program.  The cost is Suggested Donation (it was free before July 2011).  In addition, VNCOC offers (4) JATP: Job Access Transportation Program for transportation to career-related events, funded by VNCOC’s  Job Development Program. MISSION VIEJO SENIOR DIAL-A-TAXI PROGRAM, CITY OF

The Senior Dial-A-Taxi Program is a city-sponsored and city funded program designed to provide door-to-door taxi service to eligible Mission Viejo residents. The program operates seven (7) days a week, twenty four (24 hours a day, including holidays. Service can be scheduled one (1) hour ahead of time, or weeks or months in advance. There are no restrictions on the number of trips allowed per month.  Participants must apply for the service, verify eligibility and be issued a City photo ID card.  Residents who qualify maybe 80 +; or 65 years & disabled, or 60 years of age with a revoked license or unable to drive due to impairment.  ACCESS customers are NOT eligible.  Transportation for regular chemotherapy, cancer treatments or kidney dialysis therapy is NOT PERMITTED and will be referred to other medically-based transportation services.  The fee is $5 one way, or $10 round trip, for up to 3 passengers in the same cab.  The program’s service area has been expanded to include:  Mission Viejo, Laguna Hills, South Coast Orthopedic Specialists, Irvine Transportation Center Metro Link Train Station Laguna Niguel, Age Well Adult Day Health Care, Freedom Village Retirement Center, and Lake Forest Nursing Center.

Senior Non-Emergency Medical Transportation - SNEMT

The SNEMT Program is sponsored by the Office on Aging OC. It is a door-to-door transportation service for Non-Emergency trips to visit doctors, dentists, lab testing, and pick up prescriptions, etc.  Participants must be at least 60 years old and OC residents.  All services must originate within Orange County.  Service area is limited to a 15-mile radius area from the participant’s residence.  Exceptions will be made for Kaiser Lakeview and VA Hospital in Long Beach.  Out of County service is limited to within 10 mile radius of the client's residence. Rides must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance; cancellations require 24-hour notice.  Services are limited to 8 one-way trips (or four round-trips) per month per patient, with the exception of on-going medical treatments such as chemotherapy, dialysis, radiation treatments and physical therapy. The fee is $2 per trip; exact amount is required. It may be waived for low-income participants. Serving Costa Mesa, Fountain Valley, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Santa Ana, and Westminster.  This program provides door-to-door, wheelchair-accessible transportation for OC residents 60 years and older to non-emergency medical appointments (e.g., doctor, dentist, physical therapy and picking up prescriptions).  All transportation services must originate within Orange County.   Maximum trip length not to exceed 15 miles from the client’s residence - Exceptions will be made for Kaiser Lakeview and VA Hospital in Long Beach.  Out of County service within 10 mile radius of client's residence address.  The cost is $2 each way; this fee may be waived for low-income participants.  One caregiver may accompany the client/patient free of charge. Call 2 days in advance for transportation. 24-hour notice.is required for cancellations A maximum of 8 trips is allowed per client per month.
