Aging and Adult Services (“AAS”) MSW Training Program

 

AAS

The Aging and Adult Services (AAS) MSW Training Program provides specialized training and financial support to MSW students preparing for professional careers serving older adults and vulnerable adults in California. Developed and funded by the California Department of Social Services in coordination with the San José State University Research Foundation, the program strengthens the workforce within Adult Protective Services (APS) across county and Tribal agencies.

Purpose

The purpose of the AAS MSW Training Program is to expand the number of highly trained MSW graduates working in Adult Protective Services. The program offers selected students advanced training in aging-focused social work practice, emphasizing safety, protection, and support for older adults and adults with disabilities. Through this initiative, students gain the skills needed to respond to abuse, neglect, exploitation, and other complex challenges faced by adults in APS settings.

  • The service commitment begins after graduation and helps ensure a well-trained APS workforce serving California communities.
