Michelle Fernandes is a lecturer in the Department of Social Work. She teaches courses in Field Instruction. Mrs. Fernandes is a licensed clinical social worker. She earned her MSW from San Diego State University with concentration in Mental Health and her BSW from Whittier College with emphasis in Public Child Welfare. Mrs. Fernandes has practiced for the past 18 years in children’s mental health, with special focus on trauma. The last 9 years she served as a consultant to a Los Angeles-based domestic violence shelter. There she developed a mental health program for women and children, provided mental health services as well as clinical supervision/ training to staff and student interns. She also taught in the Department of Social Work at Whittier College. Prior to consulting Mrs. Fernandes practiced for many years at a Los Angeles-based non-profit agency providing outpatient mental health treatment to court mandated families and children who were victims of crime.
