College of Health and Human Development Scholarships

CHHD- Scholarship

Amount: $500 for undergraduate award and $500 for graduate award (subject to funding)

Established by: This scholarship was established and funded by the College of Health and Human Development to recognize and honor students who have demonstrated strong academic performance and leadership to the College.

Open to: This scholarship is open to continuing majors in the College of Health and Human Development who are pursuing an undergraduate or a graduate degree, and who have not previously received a College award. One award at each level after one semester of enrollment at Cal State Fullerton.

Criteria:

  • full-time Enrollment
  • minimum 3.0 GPA
  • College, Departmental or Community Service Participation or Leadership
  • Financial Need

Application Procedure:

  1. To access the application, go to your CSUF portal (be sure to use the new portal) and click on the “Scholarships” button. Follow the onscreen instructions and be sure to answer in all the questions.
  2. Provide a résumé documenting leadership positions held within the College or the University (e.g., clubs, organizations, Inter Club Council); and
  3. If receiving Financial Aid, attach a copy of your award to the application.

Timothy S. Ray Scholarship Fund

Amount: $500 (subject to funding)

Established by: This scholarship is funded by the parents of Timothy S. Ray to honor his memory and to assist students who are preparing for a career in the helping professions.

Open To: This scholarship is open to continuing full-time juniors and seniors majoring in Human Services or Child Development at Cal State Fullerton.

Criteria:

  • Scholastic achievement
  • Financial need
  • Community service activities

Application Procedure:

Kinesiology Scholarships 

Roberta Rikli Emerging Leader in Kinesiology Award

Amount: $2,500

Established by: This award was established by the Department of Kinesiology in recognition of the many contributions that Dr. Roberta Rikli has made to the Department, the University, and the field of Kinesiology. Contributions include serving as Kinesiology Department Chair, Dean of the College of Health and Human Development, co-founder of the Center for Successful Aging, and serving in leadership roles on numerous campus committees and in several national organizations including as President of the prestigious National Academy of Kinesiology. Dr. Rikli also has received national/international recognition for her research on older adult fitness and health. The award was designed to recognize a student who emulates the qualities of strong leadership as evidenced through academic success, initiative, passion for the field, altruistic values, and desire to make a difference, visionary thinking, and a strong work ethic

Open to: Graduate or undergraduate majors in the Department of Kinesiology.

Criteria:

  • Past leadership activities in the department, university, or community
  • Strong academic performance
  • Initiative shown in academic classes, labs, student clubs, or organizations
  • Contributions made via independent study, research projects, internships, or club/team activities
  • Pursuit of advanced degrees/career goals
  • Activities/contributions that have made an impact on individuals or organizations

Nomination Process: Nominations can be initiated by faculty, fellow students, community partners, or via self-nomination

  • Nomination materials should include
    • Resume prepared by student nominee
    • 500-1,000 word personal statement by student describing relevant achievements and future plans.
    • Letter of support from nominator (or outside reference, if self-nominated)
  • Awardee is expected to attend recognition event and formally accept the award

Application Procedure: Following nomination by faculty, fellow student, community partner, or self

  2. Prepare resume and personal statement of achievement/future goals and indicate if self-nomination.

Drs. Leslie and Dick Richards Endowment Achievement Scholarship

Amount: $2,500 (Subject to Funding)

Established by: This scholarship was endowed by Drs. Leslie and Dick Richards of Anaheim, CA, and is awarded to students to assist them in meeting educational expenses.

Open to: This scholarship is open to new and continuing enrolled students in the departments of Kinesiology, Health Science and Social Work who are pursuing an undergraduate or a graduate degree.

Criteria:

  • Financial need
  • Full time
  • minimum 2.9 GPA overall
  • This is an annual scholarship, and all students (previous recipients are eligible) must apply on a yearly basis.

Julie Max ATP Endowed Scholarship

Amount: $1,000 (subject to funding). Partial/complete funding is provided by the CSUF bookstore

Established by: This scholarship was established and funded by the Titan AT alumni, AT supporters, and friends of Julie Max to recognize and honor students for their outstanding academic, clinical, and professional performance.

Open to: This scholarship is open to new and continuing Athletic Training majors.

Criteria:

  • Full-time
  • Outstanding academic achievement
  • Strong clinical skills and actions
  • Professional and/or community leadership
  • Written personal statement on professional leadership in athletic training (300 word maximum)
  • Must attend recognition event to formally accept the scholarship

Application Procedure:

  1. Write an essay (750 words or less) detailing:
    1. The future of the profession and your desired role in the advancement of athletic training;
    2. How your documented history makes you a strong match to the stated Award Criteria;
    3. How these funds will be helpful to your professional advancement.
  2. Current resume or vita (CV) and current unofficial transcript; 3) Submit essay, resume and transcripts via
    email to Dr. Jason Bennett.

Kinesiology Department Undergraduate Scholarship

Amount: Up to $1,000 (subject to funding). Partial/complete funding is provided by the CSUF bookstore.

Established by: This scholarship was established by the Department of Kinesiology to honor scholastic achievement and service. A student may only be awarded this scholarship once.

Open to: This scholarship is open to returning undergraduate majors in the Kinesiology and Athletic Training majors who have completed at least 15 units in major course work.

Criteria:

  • 3.0 GPA
  • Academic achievement
  • Community/university service
  • Professional experience
  • Promise

Application Procedure:

Kinesiology Department Graduate Scholarship

Amount: Up to $1,000 (subject to funding).Partial/complete funding is provided by the CSUF bookstore.

Established by: This scholarship was established by the Department of Kinesiology to honor scholastic achievement and service. A student may only be awarded this scholarship once.

Open to: This scholarship is open to returning graduate students in the M.S. program in Kinesiology who have completed at least 6 units toward their graduate degree.

Criteria: 

  • 3.2 GPA
  • Scholastic achievement
  • Community/university service
  • Professional experience
  • Promise

Application Procedure:

Open to: This award is open to graduating undergraduate students in Kinesiology and Athletic Training majors.

Kinesiology Outstanding Graduate Student Award

Amount: No monetary award provided

Established by: This award was established by the Department of Kinesiology to recognize outstanding academic achievement, community/university service, and professional promise. Candidates are nominated by Kinesiology faculty.

Open to: This award is open to returning graduating graduate students in at least their second year in the M.S. Kinesiology program.

Criteria:

Kinesiology Special Service Award

Amount: No monetary award provided

Established by: This award was established by the Department of Kinesiology to honor undergraduate students who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to service to the university and/or community. Candidates are nominated by Kinesiology faculty.

Open to: This award is open to undergraduates in Kinesiology and Athletic Training who have completed at least 15 units in major course work.

Criteria: Outstanding University and/or community service
