| Biosketch: |
Dr. Tanjasiri’s work focuses on identifying the community health disparities, as well as developing and evaluating interventions for ethnically diverse populations, with a particular emphasis on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. Her current research includes tobacco prevention among youth, breast and cervical cancer early detection among women, and a healthy communities approach to cancer control in a multiethnic setting. Dr. Tanjasiri is particularly interested in the use of participatory research approaches, such as collaborative, university-community partnerships to effect change. She has published over a dozen book chapters and peer-reviewed articles in journals such as the American Journal of Public Health, the Journal of Cancer Education, and the Journal of Health Education. In addition to her professional work, Dr. Tanjasiri also serves as an advisory to numerous non-profit organizations and coalitions, including the Board of Directors of the Orange County Asian Pacific Islander Community Alliance, and the Advisory Committee of the Asian Pacific Partners for Empowerment and Leadership (a national Asian American and Pacific Islander tobacco control network). Dr. Tanjasiri received her masters and doctoral degrees in Community Health Sciences from the UCLA School of Public Health. |

Current Projects: |
Evaluation of a multi-year, multi-level approach to early detection of breast and cervical cancers in seven ethnic communities; exploration of tobacco use initiation among Vietnamese and Chamorro youth; and the development of GIS-based tools to identify barriers to health care access for immigrant and underserved populations. |
