What courses transfer from my community college?

Many of your courses will transfer as general education classes. Consult your college’s articulation document for specifics. The course work in health science that is applicable to General Education requirements includes the following 13 units: BIOL 101 Elements of Biology, CHEM 100 Introduction to Chemistry, PSYC 101 Introduction to Psychology, and SPCH 102 Public Speaking. The KNES 210 requirement can be satisfied with either a single course that combines human anatomy and physiology or separate courses in each. The HESC 101 course requirement can be satisfied with a similar introductory personal health course. These courses can also be taken at Cal State Fullerton. See the Catalog for details.

What scholarships and awards are available?

There are various scholarships and awards on campus and off campus that are available for health science majors. Within the Department of Health Science, there is a Scholarship Award, Health Educator of the Year Award and Most Outstanding Undergraduate and Graduate Student Award. Check the bulletin boards outside our division office for application dates and qualifications, and be sure to apply.

What activities can I join?

There are many different opportunities and activities for health science students. Some of these include membership in Eta Sigma Gamma, the student honorary association, the Institute for Student Leadership, and the Student Health Center’s Health Promotion Committee. In addition, most health science professional associations have a section specifically designed for students. We also encourage you to take advantage of the numerous opportunities for student involvement in campus-wide activities.

Who advises me?

You are encouraged to consult with any of our full-time health science faculty members at least once a semester. We are available to meet with new and continuing students during our office hours or by appointment for your convenience.

Does the Health Science Program offer a single subject health credential?

No. CSUF does not offer a single subject credential in health. The California State Universities in Southern California which provide this opportunity include Los Angeles, Long Beach, Dominguez Hills, Northridge, and San Bernardino.
