Biosketch:

Dr. Michele Mouttapa is an Assistant Professor in the Kinesiology and Health Science Departments at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF).  She received her Ph.D. in Preventive Medicine, Health Behavior Research at the University of Southern California, and has received postdoctoral training in the School of Public Health and Johns Hopkins University and at the Integrated Substance Abuse Programs at University of California, Los Angeles.   Professor Mouttapa has extensive research experience in psychosocial factors related to adolescent health.  She has published numerous journal articles and conducted conference presentations on topics including youth violence, adolescent smoking, alcohol, and drug abuse, maternal and child health, and adolescent sexual and reproductive health.  As a statistical consultant, Professor Mouttapa has evaluated projects for various local organizations, the YMCA, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

 
   
Interest Areas:

Dr. Mouttapa focuses her research on behaviors among adolescents that eventually lead to health-related outcomes including injury, cancer, and HIV infection.

   
Current projects: Including collaborations with other faculty members, Dr. Mouttapa is currently writing a grant application for Enhanced Substance Use and HIV Prevention (ESUHIP), a program for adolescents that will address issues regarding dating violence as it relates to drug abuse and risky sexual activity.
