Scholarship Recipients

The Department of Counseling has the privilege of offering two different types of scholarships each year. Below are the descriptions of each and the recipients of the awards.

Brown-Broadbent Scholarship

The Department of Counseling is pleased to announce an annual scholarship funded by Dr. Lee Broadbent who is an Emeritus faculty member at CSUF. His generous donation provides scholarship money in the amount of $1000 each year for students who are enrolled in practicum. Dr. Broadbent set the following criteria for the application:

  • The student must demonstrate financial hardship.
  • The student demonstrates commitment to improving the quality of life for children and/or adults in the community. Students with undocumented status are invited to apply.
  • The student must demonstrate academic achievement: with a minimum 3.5 GPA in graduate level classes, with all grades at a minimum of B or higher, and cannot have any outstanding incompletes.
  • The student must be enrolled in the Department of Counseling and intends to seek the Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) credential and/or the Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) credential.
  • The student must be an active member in the Graduate Counseling Student Association (GCSA).
  • The student must be enrolled in the practicum series (530, 584, 590, or 591) during the application period.
  • Preference is given to:
    • Students working in a higher education setting (at CSUF or other colleges and universities);
    • First generation college students; and
    • Single parents.

TITAN Bookstore Scholarship

This scholarship is intended to benefit students who have demonstrated strong academic performance and who are experiencing current significant financial distress.  Scholarships amounts will be based upon the particular year’s gift from the Titan Bookstore.
Scholarship eligibility requirements:

  • Minimum 3.3 GPA
  • Minimum of 12 units completed in Counseling Department
  • No Incompletes in any class
  • No grades lower than a B- in any class
  • Current financial hardship
  • You did not previously receive a Counseling department scholarship.
