CICE Registration/Approval Process
Standards and Practicum (Fieldwork) Descriptions
There are two standards a Practicum site must meet in order to be eligible for use in the CAS Introductory and Advanced Practicum courses:
Guideline 1
- Adherence to Department of Labor guidelines for academic internships
- Approval MUST be granted by the University’s Center for Internships & Community Engagement (CICE)
- Under Title: CAS 394 Intern, all students are required to intern in a diverse setting
- Intern will work directly with children, adolescents, and/or their families
- Intern will receive consistent supervision by an agency representative with a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline or an approved alternate.
Guideline 2
- Advanced Practicum should be in alignment with your major concentration (CHAE, CHAS, CHAY or CHAF) . If you select a different Advanced Practicum from your option please see a Major Advisor.

Title: CAS 454 Intern (CHAE or CHAS concentrations) - Early Childhood and Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Settings
- Intern will work directly with young children (infants through age five) in a licensed early childhood education setting or TK setting.
- Intern will receive consistent supervision by an agency representative with a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline or an approved alternate.

Title: CAS 464 Intern (CHAE concentration) - Early Childhood Development Settings
- Intern will work directly with young children (infants through age five) in a licensed early childhood education setting.
- Intern will receive consistent supervision by an agency representative with a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline or an approved alternate.

Title: CAS 474 Intern (CHAS concentration) - Elementary School Settings
- Intern will work directly with students in a school setting where learning goals are based on the CA Academic Content Standards (TK – 6th Grade) or in private or non-public TK-6th grade classrooms.
- Intern will receive consistent supervision by a professional who holds a license/credential in the area in which s/he is employed

Title: CAS 494 Intern (CHAY, CHAF concentrations) - Adolescent Youth Development or Family and Community Contexts Settings
- Intern will work in a community, private or public service setting with or on behalf of children and/or adolescents, and their families or providing behavioral or counseling support in an educational setting (students may not complete internship in a typical classroom setting)
- Intern will receive consistent supervision by a professional with a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline or an approved alternate.

Titan connection sites
- If your position is listed as an “Academic Internship” on Titan Connection, it has already been approved and you may complete your CICE Registration
as soon as you accept the offer.
- Log in with your CSUF password, complete all the information requested, and select your site when prompted. All approved sites will be listed. If your internship does not appear in the dropdown list when registering, contact the CICE Office at (657) 278-3746.
Other non-registered sites
- If you find a position outside of Titan Connection, you can start the approval process by going to: My Academic Internship Site Isn’t Registered
. Plan at least 2-3 months in advance for an approval.
- When you enter the site information, an email will immediately be sent to the site supervisor with a link and instructions to submit the position for approval. Any questions about the approval status can be directed to CICE:

- Once the position has been approved you can complete the student registration. Go to: CICE Registration.
- Log in with your CSUF password, complete all the information requested, and select your internship when prompted. All approved sites will be listed. If your internship does not appear in the dropdown list, contact the CICE Office at (657) 278-3746. Your registration is not complete until you click “Finish Placement”.
Using an Employment site:
- If you are currently employed and working directly with infants, school age children, adolescents or families you may be able to use your employment as a Practicum
