Upcoming Programs

Thailand (Seminar Fall 2018 / Travel during intersession 2019) Applcation Closed

Program fees are estimated at $2,000 and include lodging, most meals, selected tours, and community-based experiences. Program fees do not include airfare, CSUF tuition, passport fees, immunizations, health insurance, meals other than those indicated in the itinerary, teaching expenses and other personal costs (e.g., entertainment, shopping).

Highlights from previous programs in Northern Thailand include interactions with children at Watthumpla Wittayakhom School, Suksasongkrraw Mae Chan School, Dara Academy, and Royal Prince’s College High School; visits to Karen, Akha, and Lahu Hill Tribe Villages; and opportunities to engage in discussions related to program themes with local experts. In these contexts, internship activities linked course learning and professional development goals with the needs and interests of site-based partners.

Costa Rica (Seminar Spring 2019/ Travel Spring Break 2019). Applications closed
(Applications typically take place in October of each year)

Program fees are estimated at $1,200 and include lodging, most meals, selected tours, and community-based experiences. Program fees do not include airfare, CSUF tuition, passport fees, immunizations, health insurance, meals other than those indicated in the itinerary, teaching expenses and other personal costs (e.g., entertainment, shopping).

Highlights from previous programs in Costa Rica include staying in the city of Heredia; an excursion to the rainforest to see hanging bridges and a butterfly garden; participation in cultural activities, such as cooking and dance classes; visits to the Wildlife Rescue Center, a local fair market, and a tour of San Jose city. Service learning activities have taken place in and elemntary school and a non-profit organization that serves teen mothers and their children where interns have led age-appropriate activities in a rural town called El Coyol de Alajuela.

Independent Options

New Zealand
Students may make independent arrangements to complete practicum requirements in early childhood centers or primary schools in the Auckland, New Zealand area.  Such arrangements are typically four to six weeks in duration.  Individual arrangements are facilitated by the Auckland University of Technology.
