Health Science Professor Named One of County's Most Influential

Dr. Sora Tanjasiri was recognized by the Orange County Register as one of Orange County’s most influential leaders of 2016. Tanjasiri’s role in heading this year’s OC Women’s Health Policy Summit and her longtime advocacy for women’s health — primarily for disadvantaged Latino, Asian American, and Pacific Islander populations — landed her on the influencer list. The Summit was a collaboration between the CSUF Health Promotion Research Institute, OC Women’s Health Project, Chapman University and UC Irvine. It was first of its kind in the county.

“Some of the most exciting work is being done in understanding the interaction between genetics and genomics, and environmental exposures that result in greater risk for chronic and infectious diseases. ... My concern, however, is that those experiencing the poorest health outcomes are also at risk for being left out of such health advances, thereby widening not decreasing health disparities in our country,” she stated.
