Internships are a required part of the Human Services major and must be completed in consecutive order across three courses:

1. HUSR 396 + First Internship
2. HUSR 495 + Second Internship
3. HUSR 496 + Third Internship

All Human Services majors are required to complete three internships (and minors, one) before graduation. Each internship requires 120 hours and provides the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, build professional skills, and explore career paths that align with your goals.

Internship courses are taken in conjunction with your internship, not in place of one. This means you will attend your class as scheduled while also completing your internship hours outside of class time.

During a standard 15-week semester, students typically complete 8–10 hours per week at their internship site. For condensed summer terms (8–10 weeks), students should expect to complete 12–15 hours per week to meet the 120-hour requirement.

Getting started might feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to figure it out on your own. This page will guide you through each step of the process, from finding an internship to completing the required paperwork, so your hours count.

If this is your first time completing an internship at Cal State Fullerton, your first step is to attend a mandatory “How to Find an Internship” Orientation. While some transfer students may have completed internships at a community college, all students must attend this orientation before beginning their first CSUF internship. This orientation only needs to be completed once and will teach you how to search for opportunities, get your placement approved, and stay on track.
